Do we need to know what happened in the 2008 Global Financial Crisis in order to understand contemporary financial regulation?

November 27, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Convene events are organised for members of the LSE community.

The 2008 GFC was the largest financial crisis in two generations.  It revealed profound vulnerabilities in the financial system.  These two talks will interrogate the claim that it is impossible to understand modern financial regulation without the context of 2008.  After presenting a summary of the causes of the 2008 crisis, the crisis timeline, and the regulatory response, attendees will have the opportunity to debate the question posed.

Chair: Dr Philipp Paech
Speaker: LSE Law School Visiting Professor in Practice Dr David Murphy
