For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers was heard by the Supreme Court in November 2024 and the judgment was handed down in April 2025. The case concerned the effect of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 on the definition of “woman” and “man” for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010. The key disputed issue was whether the Equality Act defines “man” and “woman” for the purpose of sex discrimination protection as categories based on biological sex or legal certificates.

A panel of four leading practitioners will discuss the implications of this important judgment.

Speakers:

  • Ben Cooper KC
  • Naomi Cunningham
  • Akua Reindorf KC
  • Sarah Vine KC

Chair:

  • Professor Peter Ramsay, LSE Law School
