Masterclass in UK Refugee and Migration Law – Session 1
Convene events are organised for members of the LSE community.
In this masterclass, Nath Gbikpi, solicitor at Leigh Day with a focus on immigration and asylum law, and Visiting Fellow at LSE Law School, discusses UK Refugee and Migration Law, debunking some of the myths around asylum which underpin the current government narrative around “safe and legal routes”. The first session discusses the myth that asylum seekers can claim asylum from outside the UK/there is a way to get a visa that would allow someone to claim asylum once in the UK; and the myth that refugee law requires an asylum seeker to claim asylum in the first country they reach.
Chair: Dr Marie Petersmann
