The workplace of the future series: Preparing to work in an AI-driven legal world – Session 4
29 January @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Please note that this course is designed for LSE Law/Law and Finance and students ONLY.
Certificates will be provided to participants who attend 75% of the Sessions.
The legal profession is being fundamentally reshaped by advances in artificial intelligence and automation. Lawyers, in-house counsels, regulators, and legal technologists are experimenting with new models, tools, and business structures, creating both opportunities and challenges for those entering the profession.
This series of seminars and panel discussions invites students and faculty to explore how the AI-driven transformation of legal services will affect how lawyers work, which skills they need, and what the workplace of the future might look like.
This series is open to LLM, LLB as well as the Law and Finance students at LSE Law School. It is designed to be co-curricular (i.e., not part of the LLM or LLB curricula) and complement other relevant courses. Students will earn a certificate for attending 75% of the sessions, the course will not count as credit, to put towards any degree, nor will it be examinable.
This series is arranged by Professor Andrew Murray, Dr Neli Frost and Visiting Professor Bruce Braude.
Session 4 – 29 Jan 2026 | 6pm – 7pm
AI and Access to Justice
Ellen Lefley is the Senior Lawyer at JUSTICE and co-author of JUSTICE’s rights-based framework for AI, AI in our Justice System. She will discuss the role of AI to improve access to justice and the right to a fair trial, both key tenets of the rule of law. She will address the status quo, what the policy aims for A2J tech should be, and discuss key questions which remain about the future. This will include discussion of the current innovation context, the use of law-specific tools versus general purpose chatbots for legal help, what AI courts might be looking to adopt to help access to justice, and what the legal and human rights community can do to ensure AI improves, and doesn’t worsen, access to justice.
